Memory Care Director Job Description

Success in this role is measured by:
- Delivery of competent and compassionate care to all residents
- Excellent clinical outcomes evidenced by quality assurance data, resident retention, and customer satisfaction
- Alignment with Arbor Way standards for programming, dining, and the environment
- Consistently meeting or exceeding Arbor Way standards for resident care, communication, and people
- Excellent outcomes in resident and employee safety and state regulatory surveys Excellent staff retention
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure consistent assessment, service planning, and delivery of care and services at the appropriate level for each resident
- Maintain Arbor Company systems for implementing, monitoring, and measuring quality assurance and compliance with resident care and risk management programs
- Oversee and ensure excellence in the delivery and management of medications
- Build and support a high-performing team of care partners and nurses through effective hiring, training, and coaching
- Provide excellent care delivery approaches for residents with cognitive impairments including using skills learned in Arbor’s cognitive care training program
- Ensure resident records are maintained according to Arbor and state regulatory standards
- Provide initial and ongoing training for all care department staff and other department staff as needed
- Participate in the recruitment, retention, and discharge decisions for all residents
- Ensure that the Arbor Way is fully in place and that the community’s culture attracts and supports excellent employees
- Maintain excellent communication and a collaborative and open relationship with corporate partners
- Conduct care plan meetings with family members and third-party providers as needed
- Implement successful strategies for labor expense control
- Develop monthly staffing schedules according to the department budget
- Participate actively in all safety and quality-focused evaluation programs
- Maintain excellent communication with families and manage concerns as needed respecting privacy and HIPAA laws
- Partner with Dining Director to oversee the resident dining experience and ensure that Dining with Dignity® is in place
- In collaboration with the Memory Care Engagement Coordinator, ensure that the engagement programming flows throughout the day and is appropriate for the residents living in the Memory Care Neighborhood
- Manage the physical environment in the Memory Care Neighborhood to ensure cleanliness, appropriate noise levels, and an atmosphere that supports the residents living there
- After-hours availability for emergency calls; rotating manager on duty obligations during scheduled weekends
- Other, related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Active RN or LPN license in applicable state
- At least two years of experience in resident care management
- Experience working with seniors living with dementia-related diseases
- A desire to interact and engage with residents with cognitive impairment above delivering basic care
- Proficiency in computer systems, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word, experience using a CRM system preferred
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
- Experience supervising and scheduling front-line staff
- Ability to take calls and work a flexible schedule as needed
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Compliance with Arbor community-wide job requirements
